2nd Place and Featherweight Award Winners

The RISD Rover team is a student run organization that designs and builds a vehicle for NASA’s Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The vehicle is a human-powered, all-terrain rover that must carry two riders. The 2016 rover was the first time custom wheels and advanced composites were employed the team. These technologies allowed us to reduce the entire vehicles weight to 126lbs, for which we received the Featherweight award for lightest rover. The weight reduction also allowed us to complete the course in under six minutes, securing a 2nd place victory for the team.
